The challenge

The Estates Office building is a rectangular steel frame structure. It is clad in Scottish Larch, in two different finishes. The defining element of this building is the feature wall facing the playing fields which is deeply splayed and clad in a contrasting timber finish. The full height, full width brise soleil adds interest to this facade whilst providing shading to the large glazed open plan office.

The SOLID Approach

Due to the size of the brise soleil, carefully designed structural connections were required to ensure the carefully crafted appearance of the building is maintained. The project was delivered by Rugby School's Estates team. Clear communication was critical to ensure the on-site process went smoothly.

Creating the full multi-material (RC, Timber, Steel) structural model with so many different individual types of elements, requiring a variety of analytical techniques, was challenging but very rewarding!
