The challenge

In autumn 2014, a catastrophic failure of an un-braced purlin, was the catalyst of extensive repairs to the Great Hall roof. An extensive birdcage scaffold allowed function in the Great Hall to continue whilst repairs were underway.

The SOLID Approach

These sensitive repair works uncovered a need for yet more corrective action to address missing and disconnected elements.

Throughout, great care was taken to ensure disruption was minimised with 3D-modelled final solutions that allowed the reinstatement of the historic mouldings to minimise visual impact.

Apart from its newly cleaned and bright decorative finish, the result is sublimely invisible – which is just as it ought to be. This was an exemplary conservation project.
