Location: STRATFORD, LONDON
Architect: LIFSCHUTZ DAVIDSON SANDILANDS
PROJECT VALUE: £35m
DATE: 2010 - 2011
Plot N14 is formed by four residential buildings, three designed by Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands and the fourth by Haworth Tompkins. Consisting of 201 units, the buildings enclose a triangular courtyard. The base of the buildings is expressed in dark glazed brickwork and contains townhouses with individual entrances and gardens on the courtyard side. This base wraps the site and sits beneath white stuccoed façades with vertical balcony clusters, which are part clad in perforated aluminium louvres for privacy and shade, and are suspended from structures that hover above the apartments.
Our scope included the design of the vertical cluster balconies to three residential buildings within Plot N14. Working closely with the Architects, Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands, we developed the design of the hanging baclonies though to detailed design and fabrication including, all elements of steelwork and glass.
The project was completed in 2012, in time for the games, and has since been retro-fitted to form part of the new East Village development, which saw residents move in in 2014.
The buildings have received numerous awards as follows:
London Planning Awards 2014 Best Place to Live
London Planning Awards 2014 Mayors Award for Planning Excellence
Civic Trust Award 2014
