Christ Church Historic Fabric Survey

BLOG1.JPG

I spent two days at Christ Church, Oxford surveying the stone parapets on the Grade 1 listed buildings around Tom Quad. Although the work was started by Cardinal Wolsey, he was unable to complete it. Wolsey had planned for it to be a cloister, and the supports required for this can be seen at short intervals around the quadrangle. The quad was eventually finished when John Fell was Dean. The castellation around the top were a later addition replacing the original stone balustrading.

It was a fascinating couple of days, topped off with great views across the Oxford skyline!
