Chipping Campden School
Location: Chipping Campden, Gloucestershire
client: Chipping Campden School
Architect: Acanthus Clews Architects
PROJECT VALUE: £2m
The Chipping Camden School Performing Arts Building has been designed to accommodate modern curriculum needs and growing student numbers.
The project is a joint venture with Hayfeld Homes who are undertaking a residential development on part of the school to provide accommodation for staff and the private market. The venture will not only benefit the school, but the local community too, by having rooms available for general hire outside of school hours. The design strategy and rationale for the Performing Arts building is to be considered as a ‘landmark’ building for the school and community.
When entering the main entrance, visitors are greeted with a double height foyer with a large circular rooflight providing a view to the sky, and a feature staircase leading up to a balcony overlooking the foyer. The space will be used in many ways, a servery will facilitate a drinks reception prior to a performance and the area can also be used as an informal display/presentation area. A large canopy over sails the entrance foyer and is supported by glulam timber columns creating shelter.
