Tube and Bracket
Location: Middleton Cheney, Banbury
Architect: Cumming Anderton
PROJECT VALUE: £2m
CLIENT: Graphit Systems
DATE: 2014 - 2016
The new UK headquarters for Tube and Bracket was a disused garden centre on the outskirts of Middleton Cheney. Due to the low bearing capacity of the shallow soils and the nature of the high bearing loads of the new development, deep pile foundations were required.
The structure is a steel frame with a curved roof supporting a central green roof, clad with glass and metal. The foul water drainage is managed via a new sewage treatment plant with a new permit from the Environment Agency. The surface water was modelled using Microdrainage and utilises on-site storage with an existing outlet into a watercourse and swales to manage storm water runoff. Other design elements included swept-path vehicle movement analysis, the design of the roads and external surfaces, gabion walls, road markings and signage.
