Hook Norton Brewery

Our SOLID team are thrilled to be working with Freehaus on the ambitious Hook Norton Brewery Development. The brewery has exciting plans to expand the vibrant visitor destination in the heart of the iconic working brewery. Being appointed as engineers on the project from the initial stages has enabled us to advise on the strategic master plan, allowing us to consider how best to future proof the development. With the brewery’s vision underpinned by values such as sustainability, traceability, authenticity, honesty, and accessibility and with community at its core, extensive planning has been vital.

Hook Norton Brewery’s 175th Anniversary

The works on the brewery coincide with it’s year long celebrations to mark the brewery’s 175th anniversary. Throughout the year the brewer will be visiting its 33 pubs by means of a range of transport, including bike, motorcycle and shire horse! Patrons will also be invited to join in with an ‘ale trail’ to visit the brewery and Hooky pubs, with the opportunity to win prizes.

Hook Norton Brewery Anniversary Beers

To help celebrate Hook Norton Brewery will also be launching a range of ‘anniversary beers’ in collaboration with Everards and Joseph Holt. The first anniversary beer will be available to buy this month. The idea of brewing some anniversary beers arose a few years ago when, on the 167th anniversary, the brewery decided to brew a beer to 6.7%, continuing the tradition each year until now. This first 175th anniversary beer is a strong 7.5% ale based on the original hooky recipe but with a much higher percentage. The beer is a full bodied, rich, dark red beer with a hint of spice.

Construction of Hook Norton Brewery

With works beginning once more on the brewery it is wonderful to see that the label chosen for the anniversary beer features a photo taken of the construction team C1890 when the iconic six-storey tower brewery extension, designed by William Bradford, was being built.

The current works are still in the very early stages. We are now moving onto the detailed design work for the first phase and look forward to updating you more on the project in the coming months. In the meantime, here are some fantastic concept sketches from architect Freehaus, which make up a vision board for how the finished development may look.
