The Challenge
Ward & Burke were contracted to design, supply and install the pipework and the surge vessels within the pumping station. HAC (now part of SOLID) carried out a stress analysis of the pipework.
The SOLID Approach
The pipework and the surge vessels were modelled with the main structure to simulate the support conditions which induced additional stresses in the pipework. Areas of pipework with concentrated stressed were identified for further elastic-plastic analysis by a specialist consultant.
