Freedom Leisure are in the process of updating a series of their leisure centres in the Somerset area. The work at Goldenstones Leisure Centre includes reconfiguring the internal layout to make it more user-friendly for modern gym users.

The Challenge
The building is made from a combination of glulam, concrete and masonry walls but the archive drawings were limited in their information. We had to conduct a lot of investigatory works to ensure the viability of the works.
The SOLID Approach
Our investigatory works included drilling core holes and trial pits to ensure the changes would be viable. We then designed a system to remove walls and open-up the space available by inserting new steel beams first, before knocking down walls. By using this method we ensured no temporary works were necessary, helping save the contractor time and money.
